Undated but circa 1905 (prize presentation plate dated 1908). In decorated publisher's cloth binding, monochrome plate frontispiece, numerous further monochrome plate illustrations, and elegant chapter headpieces. Slim 16mo. Boards worn, lightly rubbed at edges, gently rounded on corners and spine ends, with some mild marks on front. Text block edges lightly spotting. Endpapers mildly tanned, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. There's a period prize presentation plate on the front paste down, indicating that the volume was once presented to Stephen Charles Wheeler in 1908. Tales of the adventures of two boys, Bill and Bob, growing up in rural Scotland in the latter part of the 19th century, including their encounter with the ghost of Lochend, a settlement at the head of Loch Ness.
