First edition, first impression. 290pp. Green cloth-covered boards with gilt decorations and lettering. 8vo. Lovely bright and fresh boards, cloth just a little rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Text block edges dust dulled. Novelist Hugh Walpole's bookplate on the front paste down, indicating that the volume came from his library at Brackenburn in the Lake District. Inscription on front free endpaper, 'Hugh Walpole, Brackenburn' etc, dated 1929 (no evidence to suggest that inscription is by Hugh Walpole, other than association with bookplate and similarity with known examples of his handwriting). Else internally neat and clean barring hint of toning on rear endpapers.
