Signed and inscribed by the author on the first page, 'For my friend, Jenny Smith, With best wishes, Joy B Cave, February 1977'. 8vo. Moderately rubbed at edges, short flat crease over one corner. Text block edges a little darkened. Reading crack inside front cover. Notice of author's death, from the Shropshire Star in 2002, taped onto first page. Pages have some edge wear and hint of toning in margins. A history of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment during the first world war, centred around Beaumount Hamel - the settlement in France which the Regiment attempted to recapture from the Germans, making the beginning of the end of the Battle of the Somme - ending with the finding of the grave of Corporal Pittman who was killed in action at Beaumount Hamel.
