192pp. Handsome and interesting volume bound in red cloth-covered boards with pictorial, blind-stamped illustration on cover. All edges gilt. Decorative, patterned endpapers. Frontispiece (showing the Lydstep Caverns in Pembrokeshire) with tissue-guard bound in. Seventy-two monochrome illustrations of Welsh landscapes, notable buildings and costumes with accompanying historical essays, some full page plates and some line drawings in text. 4to. Board rubbed at edges, fraying at base of backstrip and fraying with a little loss and curling at head of backstrip. Clean and bright internally barring occasional spotting. There is an attractive printed presentation bookplate on the pdfep (pasted-down front endpaper) showing that the book was awarded to one Florence Barker by the Board of the Manchester Chorlton (?) Street School for Excellence in Biblical Knowledge following an examination in 1902. Illustrations include Hawarden Park, The Old House at Llanidloes, Newton Cottage Church, Carnarvon Castle, Aber Valley, Menai Bridges, Rhuddlan Castle, Rossett Mills, Erbistock Ferry, Loggerheads Bridge, Bodelwyddan Church, Harlech Castle, The Mumbles, Crypt at Neath Abbey, Cardiff Docks etc. Nice volume to have, ideal addition to collection on Welsh interests.
