xvi, 194pp, 15 black and white engraved plates (inc frontispiece). Quarter bound Green cloth over grey cloth-covered boards with gold coloured decoration and lettering. 8vo. Top edge of boards and spine lightly rubbed. Text block edges lightly tanned. Endpapers staring to tan, bookplate on front free endpaper causing tanned mark on following blank page. Dust jacket has sun-fading to spine with chipping to top edges. Rear of cover soiled. Internally pages margins lightly tanned otherwise neat, clean, bright and tight.

Hogarth came to England in 1726 for two years, during this time he saw everything and did everything. This book gathers the best of his criticisms and comments which at times are sarcastic, critical and witty about the English way of life, institutions, history, literature and more.
