Under the Chilian Flag, A Tale of War Between Chili and Peru (1879-1881)
280pp plus publisher's catalogue bound in at rear. Decorated cloth boards (worn at edges and spine joints, frayed on corners and spine ends, marked and mottled). Page edges tinted as printed. Previous owner's inscription opposite half-title, else internally neat, clean, and mostly bright barring occasional faint spotting. A little shaken. Before the advent of dust jackets, many books, especially those for children were bound in brightly coloured cloth with pictorial blocking in gold and colours, often on the spine as well as the front board. This volume is one of those, mostly closed associated with the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, into the 1920s.
