1st UK edition (previously published in the US). Black publisher's cloth boards (heavily worn, mottled, rounded at corners and spine ends, marked). Lending sheet on front free endpaper, no other library markings, but old tape repairs to cracked gutters on three of the first four spreads. Well-thumbed. Holding. In its original worn dust jacket (discoloured, chapped at edges, creased to cracking on spine, shelf wear, old interior tape reinforcements). Dust jacket now in archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong the life of the jacket. It is not adhered to the book or to the dust jacket. This UK edition is hard to find. The true first, which likely had a larger print run, is more readily available, but lacks the dramatic dust jacket art work. Brett Halliday was a pen name of Davis Dresser, an American mystery and western writer best known for the series of Michael Shayne mysteries he wrote and later commissioned others to write.
