Thomas Rowlandson: A Catalogue of Watercolour Drawings (1756-1827)

94pp, with dozens of monochrome photographic images of Rowlandson's works. A sale catalogue produced in 1933, with notes. In blue card yapped covers with illustration tipped onto front panel. Tall 4to. Covers a little rubbed and bumped on edges. Hint of spotting on first and last few leaves, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Rowlandson is often criticised for being lured into the commercialism of caricature, for some say that if he had applied himself, the quality of his early works on form and structure might one day have put him on a par with Gainsborough and Reynolds. But then we would have been deprived of his witty and delightful works such as those which appear in this collection.
