First published in 1908, this 1931 edition was the first to be issued with E H Shepard's illustrations, which are now eternally associated with the tales of Mole, Ratty and Mr Toad. Green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine and gilded motifs and illustrations on front. Gently rubbed spine ends, corners very gently rounded. Attractively illustrated endpapers. Presentation bookplate on verso of free end paper. Very minor spotting on prelim pages. Otherwise internally neat, clean, bright and tight. 12mo.
