[1938]. 258pp, profusely illustrated throughout with monochrome photographic images, maps etc. In orange cloth boards with black illustration and lettering front and spine. Small 4to. Boards slightly rubbed and rounded at corners and spine tips, cloth remains bright and clean. Mild toning to endpapers, else neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, a little bumped and rubbed at edges, tape residue scars on inner flaps, the occasional faint mark. A remarkable record of the first world war, and the changes which took place in the following 20 years, with parallel photographs of war scenes and of the same location later. Each photograph is accompanied by notes relative to the locality, with each section preceded by a short survey of the war history of the region as a whole. The areas covered are Belgium, From Bailleul to Arras, North of the Somme, South of the Some and Behind the Lines.
