First edition.  xiv, 320pp, lightly illustrated in black and white. Red cloth covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  8vo.  Cloth very slightly pushed at spine head.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original dust wrapper, gently bumped at edges and perhaps a tad faded.

The story of the lives of two very different men who came together in of the greatest frauds in this history of book collecting.  Forman was a postal worker who in his spare time was a serious scholar who edited the works of Keats and Shelley. Wise was a commodities dealer and an influential book collector, President of the Bibliographical Society.  They came together to forge first editions of a numnber of Victorian authors.  The unmasking of the conspiracy caused a sensation in 1934 and forms a part, now, of literary history.
