First edition, first impression. xii, 202pp, with colour plate frontispiece, three further colour plates and numerous black and white illustrations, all by John Nash. In green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Cloth very gently rounded at corners and spine ends. Previous owner's inscription, dated 1958, on mildly toned and spotted endpapers, else internally neat, clean, fresh and tight. In its original dust jacket, toned and chapped at edges, with small chips on verso. A rather nice, patina-bearing copy of this classic (and now not so easy to find) work describing three gardens which inspire intimate connections with their gardeners, each with different soils and different possibilities for the plant lover and plant collector. Beautifully complimented by John Nash's exquisite botanical drawings.
