1st edition, first printing. xii, 116pp, colour plate frontispiece plus numerous black and white plate illustrations and line drawings in text. In red cloth-covered boards with black titles on spine (slightly faded, a little rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends). Internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring small patch of mild scarring on front free endpaper. In its original, pictorial dust jacket (a little bumped and chipped on edges, chipped at spine ends, some pencil writing on front inner flap). Dust jacket now protected in a Mylar wrapper, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. A lively and insightful history of the development of the English house from Saxon times, focusing on the reasons for the changing styles in architecture which amounts to a fine social history.
