The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke
All but two of the verses contained in this volume were previously published in the Sydney Bulletin. With a cover design and decorations by Hal Gye. 126pp, plus 16pp publisher's catalogue at rear. In green cloth boards, with black illustration and lettering (board a little rubbed and indented on edges, rounded at ends of a sunned spine). Two previous owners' names on front free endpaper (slightly tanned), else internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring occasional mild spotting. A hard to find volume, a verse novel written in the author's signature style of rough Australian slang. Enormously popular in both Australia and New Zealand, the volume sold some 60,000 copies and ran to nine editions within a year of publication, but is now hard to find. It has been adapted into other media many times, including the 1918 film, The Sentimental Bloke, widely regarded as Australia's greatest silent movie. 12mo.
