The Sermons of Mr Yorick [Laurence Sterne]
A mixed edition in six volumes. The first two volumes are from J Dodsley's Twelfth Edition of Sterne's Sermons, printed in 1775. Volumes 3 to 6 were from a New Edition, printed for W Strahan, T Becket and T Cadell in 1776. Uniformly bound in full, plain calf leather with five raised bands to spine, leather title and volume number labels on spine, all edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles. Volume One has an engraved frontispiece showing Sterne, after a portrait by Joshua Reynolds. 16mos. All volumes - boards worn and rubbed at edges, leather cracked on spine joints; front board of volume I and both boards of volume II detached. Front board fragile and front free endpaper detached in volume 5. Some toning in endpapers, and in most volumes the name Elizabeth Wentworth appears on the front free endpaper, in a copperplate hand. Endpapers have some marginal toning, else internally all clean, neat, bright and tight. A lovely, worthy of some refurbishment.
