Not dated but c. 1780. Plain brown leather binding, five raised bands and gilt lettering to spine (worn around edges, cracking on spine joints, and lightly brushed at spine ends). Tanned and marked endpapers, fragile front free endpapers bearing inscriptions of two previous owners - Robert Headley and Thomas King, of Cannon Bridge, Hereford - both in a copperplate hand. Pages generally unevenly tanned. The lower quarter of the title page, and of the last page, have been clumsily removed, thus removing any information on the publisher, or date. vii, [6], 14-203. Volume is marked 'Sterne's Works, Vol 6' on the spine. Volume contains 'The Koran' a spurious account of Sterne's Life likely written by Sterne's contemporary imitator and critic, Richard Griffith or his son (also Richard), including the preface addressed to the Earl of Charlemont and the editors appeal to readers. It is bound with A Political Romance addressed to - Esq, of York, Sterne's first long writing which was suppressed after its first publication in 1759. It is not unusual for Griffith's Koran to be included in Sterne's Works of this er but its inclusion here, in this volume, has not helped us to determine which edition of Sterne's works this volume belongs to.
