Author's edition (with a note on the copyright page from the publisher indicating the inclusion of Longfellow's 'latest' works). 644pp, with tissue-guarded portrait frontispiece and a further 180 illustrations in text after drawings by Sir John Gilbert. In a stunning decorated trade binding: brown cloth-covered boards with extensive gilt work, stamped and coloured decorations front and spine, blind embossed motif on rear, bevelled edges, all edges gilt, jet black endpapers. 8vo. Boards a little rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, cloth cracked along front spine joint, some mild scuffing. Previous owner's inscription, dated 1888, on flyleaf. Some faint and occasional spotting on prelims, else internally neat, clean and bright. The first signature is a little loose. A truly beautiful book, handsomely bound. Ideal gift for those who appreciate Longfellow's poetry.
