xvi, 392pp, central section of eight black and white photographic plates. Brick red cloth-covered boards, gilt titles on spine; illustrative chapter head and tailpieces. 8vo. Lightly rubbed and bumped spine ends, corners rubbed and rounded, cloth starting to wear along lower edges and corners; some staining and soiling. Text block edges lightly tanned and foxed, small black marks on fore edge which are visible on a small number of page edges. otherwise internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

The literature of resistance is prolific; that of collaboration is sparse. This study attempts to redress the imbalance. A chapter is devoted to each of the occupied countries in the order in which they were invaded and it also takes a look at that curious myth known as 'the fifth column'.
