First edition. 198pp, monochrome plate frontispiece. In emerald cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Signed and inscribed by the author on the half title page, 'To Michael, who says he loves history, July 1958, Egon Larsen'. 8vo. Cloth a little rounded at corners and spine ends. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original illustrated dust jacket, somewhat chapped at edges with minor loss, a little browned in margins, and perhaps mildly faded. A collection of short biographies of men and women from different times and different places who have offered their lives that freedom shall not perish, including William Penn, the anti-Nazi students of Munich, Lafayette and Masaryk and more.
