Fully bound in dark brown leather, blind embossed rules, decorations and tool work, gilt titles to spine, bevelled boards, all edges red. (Boards rubbed on corners, spine ends and joints, small white mark on front board). Marbled endpapers. Gutters cracked between endpapers, previous owner's name (George Capel) on half-title. A lovely little volume. Margaret Godolphin was a 17th century courtier who chose John Evelyn as her mentor. She died in childbirth in 1678 and Evelyn would go on to write her biography; it was not published, however, until 1847.
