The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (3 volumes)
1900. Third edition thus (that is edited and introduced by George Saintsbury and illustrated by E J Wheeler), following the first edition of 1894. This edition of Sterne's works comprises of six volumes, the final three of which contained Tristram Shandy. These three volumes are offered here. Green cloth-covered boards with gilt decoration and lettering. Top edge gilt, all other edges deckled. (Boards worn and rounded at spine ends, a few minor marks). Tissued-guarded frontispieces with further tissue-guarded full page illustrations and page decorations, all by E H Wheeler; title pages printed in red and black. Armorial bookplate on paste down of each volume. Minor toning on endpapers, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. All three volumes in their original chapped and spotted dust jackets, with minor loss at spine ends; the DJ on volume three is cracked all along front fold and that on volume on has an area of loss around the leading corner; all three a little sunned on spine. Dust jackets now protected in an archival-quality mylar wrapper which is not adhered to the jacket or the volume in anyway.
