xx, 498, [2] pages. Portrait of Defoe for frontispiece and 100 illustrations by J D Watson, engraved by the Brothers Dalziel. (See Houfe, p 342.) Full Victorian decorated tan cloth binding, blind embossed and elaborate gilding, bevelled edges, all edges gleamingly gilded (boards a just a little rubbed at corner points, mildly bruised at spine tips). Original creamed yellow front endpapers. Previous owner's inscription on front free endpaper, dated 1870; faint occasional spotting on prelims, first signature very slightly loosening at base only. Watson's illustrations for Robinson Crusoe were first published by Routledge in 1864. A very good copy of this beautiful edition of Defoe's classic tale. A large and heavy volume which will likely incur an additional charge for overseas shipping.
