The Lady Came By Night : A Michael Shayne Mystery
[1953] 1st UK edition (previously published in the US under the title 'One Night with Nora'). Red publisher's cloth boards (worn at edges, rounded at corners, a few marks). Lending sheet on front free endpaper, no other library markings (pencil marks on front paste down, else internally neat and clean barring very occasional spotting. In its original worn dust jacket (rubbed at edges with a couple of tiny nicks, crease on spine, shelf wear). Dust jacket now in archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong the life of the jacket. It is not adhered to the book or to the dust jacket. This UK edition is hard to find. The true first, which likely had a larger print run, is more readily available, but lacks the dramatic dust jacket art work. Brett Halliday was a pen name of Davis Dresser, an American mystery and western writer best known for the series of Michael Shayne mysteries he wrote and later commissioned others to write.
