The History of the Damnable Life of Doctor Johan Faustus given her in modernised spelling was first published in 1592 as a translation of Historia von Doctor Johann Fausten. The Second Report of Doctor John Faustus is an anonymous English work first published in 1594. A useful yet scarce edition. Faust is protagonist of the classic German legend based on the historical Johann Georg Faust (c. 1480-1540) who made a pact with the devil exchanging his eternal soul for unlimited knowledge and earthly pleasure.
