[4], xlviii, 313pp. Introductory epistle by 'Cuthbert Clutterbuck', fictional editor of some of Scott's works. Volume one (of three) only. Half bound in calf leather over marbled boards, five spine panels, morocco spine label with gilt titles (rubbed all round edges, rounded at corners, leather cracking around spine joints, scuff on front board). Bound by J Taylor Seton of 9 Mound Place, Edinburgh, as indicated by small bookbinder's label on front endpaper. (Seton-Taylor was an Edinburgh bookbinder, from a family of bookbinders and booksellers, active between about 1782 and 1825, so this is likely one of his later works). Front endpaper also carries the bookplate of Thomas Murray Allan. Front endpaper cracked. Some staining on prelims and occasional spotting. Neat, clean and tight. Lovely volume.
