First edition, first impression. 272pp. 8vo. Numerous monochrome and two-tone illustrations and decorations in text. Original tan cloth boards with rustic-style decoration and illustration on front and similar spine decorations (very lightly rubbed and faded at extremities). Elaborately decorated endpapers. Unclipped dust jacket, chapped along upper edge, worn at head & heal of backstrip and faded in patches. Half-title page inscribed "Thank you for your lovely work. Bless you, Noel, 1954". The recipient was Rita Smith who, for many years, was the author's secretary and typist. Dust jacket now protected in archival quality clear film sleeve. Account of the history of England told as an adventure story "so far removed from a school history book, and yet was about England's history, that even I would read it", said the author.
