First American edition, first printing (preceded by the UK edition published the year before). Prelims plus 98pp. A most unusual story from one of the finest story-tellers In grey cloth-covered boards with silver lettering to a decorated front and spine (boards strong, square and clean, just a little rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, sunned around spine). Internally neat, clean, and tight, on creamy pages with a previous owner's name on the front free endpaper. In its first state dust jacket, designed by Montinot (a little chipped on edges, sunned around spine, lightly soiled on verso). The dust jacket is now protected in an archival-quality mylar wrapper which has been fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Herbert George (HG) Wells was an English writer, prolific in many genres. He wrote dozens of novels, short stories, and works of social commentary, history, satire, biography and autobiography. His work also included two books on recreational war games. Well-known and respected as a social commentator in his life time, Wells is perhaps best remembered for his pioneering science fiction and futurism works, including The Time Machine and the War of the Worlds. We have more first and early editions of H G Wells' books in stock. Please inquire for a discount if considering ordering more than one volume.
