With an introductory essay, the Linnaean Arrangement of the Various River Fish Delineated in the Work; and Illustrative Notes. lviii, 416pp. Thirteen notes plates all present, with numerous further black and white illustrations in text. In contemporary full blue leather binding with gilt decorations and borders. Six-panelled spine bearing gilt titles and decorations. All edges gilt. Inner gilt dentelles around lilac endpapers. Tall 12mo. Boards are a little rubbed at edges, slightly rubbed at corners. Rubbed over spine joints, spine faded. Partial cracks in gutter between front endpapers & endpapers themselves a little faded at edges. There's some mild and occasional spotting on prelims and plate surrounds in particular but generally internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Armorial bookplate on front free endpaper, and gift inscription dated 1831 on the first black page. A handsome, solid early 19th century copy of this classic work first published in 1653 with the patina of careful ownership.
