First edition, first printing. 266pp, xiv, with colour plate frontispiece and 11 further monochrome plate figures. In green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Short 4to. Cloth binding is a gently rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, faded over spine with some mild marks. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper, dated 1943. Some very faint spotting on first and last few leaves, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A detailed but engaging study of English apple varieties, describing their history, use and characteristics - particularly notable for its inclusion of historic and ancient varieties.
