First edition, first printing. 254pp. In beige cloth-covered boards with green titles front and spine. .Volume manufactured to War Economy Standards. 8vo. Cloth a little rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, perhaps a tad darkened. Text block edges age darkened. Gift inscription on front pastedown, dated 1943, crease over lower corner of title page, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, worn rubbed on edges and folds, sunned over spine with small chipping at head and heel of spine, chapped along rear upper edge, some visible shelf wear and very light spotting. Dust jacket now protected in an archival-quality Mylar wrapper, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Farjeon was a popular and talented English writer and novelist, taking most of her inspiration from the Sussex Downs of her childhood. The Alphabet was her first novel.
