Tales from the Works of G A Henty
Not dated but c 1900. 220pp. Colour plate frontispiece. Decorated and gilded boards, to a design by Ethel Larcombe, front and spine Boards a little worn and rounded at corners and spine tips. Some spotting to prelims, text block edge toned. (Ethel Larcombe was a leading book designer often commissioned by Talwin Morris, the Art Director at Blackie and Sons between 1983 and 1909; Morris himself was a leading influence in the Glasgow Style, associating with the likes of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Margaret MacDonald and Frances and Herbert MacNair. Larcombe's designs, while often a little more florid than those of other members of the Glasgow School, are uniformly elegant, beautiful and now quite collectible.).
