In a near contemporary fine binding of full, tan calf's leather with gilt decorations to all edges, gilt lettering on spine, gilt dentelles on edges, inner gilt dentelles, all edges gilded, marbled endpapers, with the initials F G T on front. (Boards a little rubbed on edges, more markedly so on a sunned spine.) Gift inscription on flyleaf, 'F G Turner from M H, 4th June 1902', else internally in fine condition. The Victorian author Shorthouse is perhaps best remembered for his first novel, John Inglesant. This is a beautifully presented copy of one of his later works.
