[1960]. 160pp, plus 24 full page monochrome illustrations, all by Stanley Lloyd. In orange cloth-covered boards with black lettering on spine. 8vo. Cloth is gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Previous owner's name and a couple of spots on front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, worn and chapped on edges, partially cracked along rear joint, with minor loss and crumbling at spine ends, creased on verso. Dust jacket now protected in archival-quality Mylar wrapper, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Widely considered on the first and best 'pony story books'. This edition, from 1960 is known as the Gingham edition (likely because of the pattern in the background of the dust jacket), and includes the illustrations that Stanley Lloyd first did for Cummings when the book was first published. There is an excellent article on Primrose Cumming's Pony Stories and the various editions they have been through on Jane Badger's Books website.
