Cloth is heavily mottled in margins, gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Small dark mark on front free endpaper else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A volume which aims to enable those already familiar with the subject to identify different sorts of rigging and to place on the record an example of each rig in the form of an authentic sail plan. Divided into four sections, the first deals with descriptions of various rigs; the second presents a representative collection of sail and rigging plans, including several well-known and famous vessels; the third contains diagrams and drawings, names of masts, spars, sails and rigging, together with some notes of the development of the square sail; and the final section is a series of useful references, glossary etc.
