First edition.  158pp, lightly illustrated.  In deep blue boards with silver lettering on front panel.  8vo.  Very slightly pushed at spine tail else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original dust wrapper, very slightly bumped at edges.

The author, after military service, decided in early 1937 to join the Palestine Police.  After journeying to Palestine, he found himself among good humoured, well disciplined men maintaining order in a very troubled land.  Already a keen naturalist, he was most observant, both on and off duty, ever watchful of the natural scene and its flora and fauna.  The volume amounts to a history of Palestine and the Middle East in the early part of the 20th century, and illuminating on the wildlife mentioned in the Bible.
