120pp, in thin pictorial card covers. Covers are worn, creased, chipped all round edges, with old and crumbling tape repairs to spine and rear edges, backstrip absent. Old tape repairs to gutters and edges of first two and last leaves, a few mild crayon and pencil marks on title page. The 'belongs to' box has been completed in pencil. Tall 8vo. The first few leaves have significant edge wear, especially around the lower leading corner, with some minor loss. The good things about this copy are that it is complete and the stories and illustrations remain bright, fresh and clean. We would not usually offer a book in this condition but it is a scarce title, one of the hardest to find Rupert Books, and very good copies can be expensive. This copy is therefore offered as one which may fill a gap in a collection until a better copy can be sourced and afforded - or as simply a reading copy. The text is by Alfred Bestall, although he is not credited in the volume itself and, while widely referred to as the Rupert Annual for 1944, it does not identify itself as an annual and is perhaps more properly called a special edition or collection.
