Novelist Rose Macauley first met Hamilton Johnson in London in 1914 but they lost touch until, in 1950 Hamilton happened to read on of her novels and sent her a fan letter. She replied and the correspondence, and friendship, blossomed into a chronicle of Macauley's return to England and to the Church of England, only terminating upon the death of Father Johnson in 1958.
