First edition.  352pp, plus section of black and white plate illustrations.  In green cloth-covered boards with gilt stamped lettering on spine.  8vo.  Cloth gently pushed at spine ends.  Robert Blake's dates written on the title page, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original dust wrapper, a little rubbed at corners and spine ends, small manuscript note at base of front inner flap.  Dust jacket now protected in a Mylar-style protective wrapper.

Robert Blake (1598-1657), widely recognised as the founder of English naval supremacy, was an English naval officer and Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports.  He served under Oliver Cromwell during the English civil wars and the Anglo-Spanish war and served as Admiral of the State's Navy during the Anglo-Dutch War.
