3rd edition. Complete in two volumes. xlvi, 292pp; xx, 32pp, with illustrations in both volumes. Both volumes uniformly bound in deep blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine. 8vo. A large and heavy set which will require an additional charge for overseas delivery. Both volumes very gently rounded at base of spine, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. Both in their original printed dust jackets, lightly bumped at spine ends, with faded spines. The dust jacket for volume II has a loosely fitted protected plastic wrapper, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. The work of Daniel Berkely Updike stands foremost among the classic works on the printing trade. He was not only an accomplished typographical historian but also a master printer, and writer of considerable power. Based on lectures delivered not to printers but to students of business adminstration, the mysteries of letter-design, type-founding and composition are laid open to the layman.
