Hotten presented a number of Twain's works to the London audience in 1871 under attention grabbing titles such as Screamers, and Eye-Openers. Pleasure Trip on the Continent is one of these. According to a New York Times article of the period, none of them were authorised by Twain. The article suggests this volume was published in 1870 but internal evidence suggests 1871.
