A 19th century scrap book with marbled paper covers, stitched (rubbed at edges, chipped along spine, faded). Page edges a little rubbed and soiled. The scrap book contains the plate illustrations from Samuel Prout's 'Hints on Light and Shadow, Composition, Etc, As Applicable to Landscape Painting, Illustrated with Examples', tipped in, each of which has been hand-coloured, presumably by Dorethea Besfelt, to whom the scrapbook belonged. Lovely set of illustrations, nicely demonstrating the light and shadow Prout described. Attractive, interesting, unique. Folio.
