First edition, first printing. 256pp. In olive green cloth-covered boards with deep green titles front and spine. 12mo. Cloth on covers worn, especially at edges and on joints, gently bruised at spine tips. Some staining on endpapers, faint and occasional spotting on first and last few leaves. Gutter cracked ahead of half title page and ahead of rear endpapers, making the volume a little loose. An occasional smudge/finger mark.
Patsy is a modern, restless, sensation-hunting girl. But she has made a wretched marriage. Then she meets Carstairs at a party in Bohemia. Their meeting leads into a mysterious world of tiny restaurants crowded with curious, haggard folk, high-art clubs and luxurious flats of those absurd aspirants of fame. A sad but clever novel. This is one of the harder to find novels that Banister wrote in the early years of the 10th century.
