Two volumes from J M Dent's New Temple Shakespeare series. Othello: 1939 reprint, xxiv, xiv, 170pp. Romeo and Juliet: 1942 reprint, 156pp. Uniformly bound in red cloth-covered boards with gilt motif on front panel, gilt titles on spine. 24mo. Boards very slightly rounded at corners, still vivid and fresh. Both volume have previous owner's details pasted onto the front free endpaper. There's a short nick from the edge of the rear free endpaper in Romeo and Juliet and a couple of small marks on pages. The New Temple Shakespeare series comprised 40 hard back volumes of Shakespeare's plays and poetry and commentary, issued between 1934 and 1956. Each volume was edited by M R Ridley, and features half-title and title pages with engraved vignettes by Eric Gill, making for small and elegant presentations of Shakespeare's works.
