First edition, first printing. [1880]. In blue cloth covered boards, with black titles (cloth a little rounded at spine ends). Text block edges dust stained, endpapers a little tanned, title page gutter a little strained, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its edge worn and torn, soiled an faded dust jacket, which has minor losses on rear upper edge and at spine ends. A study and account of the religious martyrs of Kent, and now also revealing of the strength of anti-Catholic sentiment within parts of the Anglican hierarchy at the time the book was written. Chilvers' introduction, in particular, is scathing of Roman Catholic expansion.
