Black endpapers. 8vos. Cloth is worn and rubbed at edges and around spine, marked and lightly scratched in places, spines sunned dulling lettering, heavily rubbed at spine ends. Text block edges dust darkened. Minor scar on front hinge of volume two. Some faint and occasional spotting and finger marks on pages else neat, clean. Robustly bound and square.
This two volume work was first published anonymously in French in 1868. In 1869 Richard Bentley published this English edition, crediting Countess Teresa Guiccioli as the author. Countess Guiccioli was an Italian aristocratic and the married lover of Lord Byron while he was living in Ravenna and engaged in writing Don Juan.
