[1888]. 468pp, plus 24pp of advertisements bound in at rear, with 77 illustrations in text. In green cloth boards, with blind rules at panel edges and gilt titles front and spine. Thick 12mo. Boards are mottled and marked, worn, rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Front paste down endpaper chipped and scuffed at edges, front free endpaper detached but present, mild stain on edge of first few pages, and corner portion missing from p.17 with some loss of text. Hinges cracked, resulting in loosening of binding. A scarce first edition of this influential cookery book from the late 19th century. Agnes Bertha Marshall was an unusually prominent businesswoman for her time, known particularly for her work on ice cream and frozen desserts, earning the moniker Queen of Ices.
