Missal de la Sainte Bible [Missal of the Holy Bible], No. 272
French text. Undated but likely circa 1880. 442pp, tissued-guarded engraved frontispiece, illustrated title page, one further tissue-guarded plate illustration, coloured page decorations and broad borders throughout. Bound in full dark brown leather, four raised bands to spine, gilded metal motif laid onto front panel, all edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles, silk moire endpapers. 16mo. Leather a little rubbed at edges, gently rounded on corners, a little sunned over spine. Small bookseller's ticket on reverse of front free endpaper. One page corner torn with flat crease (not affecting text). A little toning on endpapers and faint and occasional spotting on first and last few leaves else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Six sepia-toned with gilt details prayer cards loosely laid in, all dating from between 1910 and 1930. A truly beautiful volume, with the gentle patina of use.
