Memoirs of Samuel Pepys, Esq, FRS, Comprising his Diary from 1659 to 1699, and a selection from his Private Correspondence
Undated but circa 1880. xvi, 814pp. Fully bound in deep blue leather with gilt lettering and decorations. Arms and motto of Wolverhampton School on front panel. All edges marbled. Gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers. 8vo. Leather is a little shelf worn, gently rounded on corners, sunned over spine with minor loss around head. Prize presentation plate on the front paste down indicating that the volume was awarded in 1883 by the headmaster of Wolverhampton School. A little spotting on first and last few pages else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.
A particularly handsome binding on this classic work, albeit bearing the patina of age and use.
