In maroon cloth, elaborately blind stamped, bevelled edges, with gilt decorations and lettering front and spine. Maroon endpapers. All edges sprayed red (boards are worn at edges, rounded on corners, crumbled at spine ends with minor cracks on spine joints). Tissue guard tanned, causing foxing on half title and title page. Manuscript date on title page, else internally fresh and clean. Hinges a little weak, cracked between title page and frontispiece. A selection of 'City scraps', first written as columns in the City Press, providing sketches of old London, illustrative of London at the time of publication (in the mid 1850s) and its past.
