Letters of Madame du Montier, Collected by Madame Le Prince Le Beaumont, Translated from the French by Miss Newman (Volume II)
Volume II (of three) only. xx, 278pp. In a plain calfskin leather binding. 12mo. Boards heavily worn, scuffed on rear, rubbed at corners and crumbling at spine tips, with old clumsy tape repairs over backstrip. Endpaper hinges cracked, rear hinge clumsily tape repaired, rear free endpaper paper absent. Some rusting and spotting on endpapers, text block lightly tanned, with some mild and occasional spotting, gentle page edge wear. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper. First published as part of a collection with the title Lettres de Mademoiselle du Montier. Leprince de Beaumont was a French novelist, who wrote perhaps the best version of Beauty and the Beast, and perhaps best remembered for her instructional handbooks for educators. Her third husband was the French spy, Thomas Pichon. Not a pretty copy, although susceptible to restoration, but very hard to find title.
